Letter to Home - June 14, 2010

Hi Family!

Well the City, is great!  Today for pday we had a zone activity in Golden Gate Park.  It is a HUGE park in the middle of the city.  It is actually the largest man made park in the world!  It was fun. So first off I did get both packages, and I LOVED the San Francisco package!  It made me laugh, especially the chow mien!  Thank you so much for sending the money!  I didn't think that I would need it, but it came just in the right time, because I have to buy sandals.  The reason why I have to buy sandals is because the mission nurse told me that I'm not allowed to wear shoes anymore.  The reason being is that I have the nastiest ingrown toenail that you have ever seen!  Yup, its really gross.  I have had minor ingrown toenails before, but this one is bad.  It bleeds everywhere, and other nasty stuff comes out of it (I'll spare you the details).  So I'm going to look pretty funny proselyting with sandals on!  Sister Heaton (the mission nurse) said that if it doesn't get better in awhile I'll have to go in for surgery.  I never knew that the consequences for clipping your toenails wrong could be so great!  Well, I have learned my lesson.  So thank you sending the money!  Oh and don't worry, the Lord is blessing me with miracles!  Yes it hurts like a booger at night, when we have to peel back the skin and pry my nail back into its normal place, as it bleeds everywhere (I say "we" because Elder Anderson does all the "digging", as I scream like a girl).  But as we are out working during the day the pain is almost totally gone!  As Sis. Webb would say God is good!  Mmmmm!

Also I got the camera!  But there is funny news about the camera issue!  My camera (the one that I brought out) isn't broke!  The problem is the memory card!  I put the memory card in the camera that you sent, and it had the same problems!  So I will be sending that memory card home (because it has some pictures on it), and if you could send me the other memory card ASAP (the one I sent home at Christmas) that you be great.

Ok now the important stuff...  Our investigators are doing well.  Michelle is awesome!  We took her to Oakland yesterday for the Why I Believe fireside, and she loved it.  She really want to know and have her own testimony.  She said, "If I could know like the people that bore their testimonies, then I would get baptized right now!"  She gets kind of frustrated because she wants a testimony all at once.  We are teaching her that the Lord gives us knowledge line upon line.

We are also teaching a guy named Nathan (I don't know if I've ever mentioned him before).  Nathan is super prepared!  The only problem is, is that he is on parole for 2 years, so he cant get baptized until he is off.  But he is doing so good!  He is really turning his life around.  He was in prison for awhile because he is an ex gang member.  He was part of the Crypts.  You know, the Crypts and the Bloods?  But he is loving the gospel.

Also this week Sis Webb is getting baptized!!!!  She is the crazy black lady, and I lover her to death!  We went to the San Francisco food bank this past weekend, and did service with her!  It was way fun!  She is the craziest investigator that I have ever taught, but I have never loved an investigator more!  She is the one that has been homeless.  She is a round, middle aged black lady that is going bald, but has the biggest heart.  She is a firecracker.  Everyone at church loves her and always comes to her and gives her a hug.  I'm so happy that I was able to meet her.

Also this weekend Amy Linn is going to be baptized into the singles ward.  Amy is cool.  Her boyfriend introduced her to the church, and she has been investigating for awhile, because she really wanted to make sure that she knows the church is true for herself, not just because of her boyfriend.  So we have 2 baptisms this weekend, so if you could send me that memory card as soon as you get this, that would be great - so I can take pictures at Amy and Sis. Webb's baptisms.
Well, I was shocked to hear about Grandpa Cluff's passing.  I really loved him!  I have so many memories of me, Tyson and Timmy over at there house.  They were always so kind - the perfect second grandparents!  Its happy to know that he is with Ila, and Skippy again!  The gospel is wonderful!

Mom, I happy for your new calling!  You will be the best!  I love the talk by Pres. Uchtdorf - Lift Where You Stand.  No matter where we serve in the church, as a Stake President, or a nursery leader, we can help lift those around us and move the Lords work forward.

Tell everyone that I love them!  Especially Grandma and Grandpa Smith, Great Grandma, and G-mama Cook!  I wish I had more time to write them, but being Zone Leader wipes out my time!  Oh and tell James that I haven't seen any of the Museums here because they are too expensive!  I hope that you all have a great week!
