Letter to Home - August 17, 2009

HI! How is the bestest family in the whole world? It sounds like all is well. I'm not going to lie Mom - You gave me a fright last week with the whole cancer scare. It was good to hear that all is well. I got the dear elder letter on Saturday (the 15th). It would be faster to send it straight to the Garrison's house, but transfers are in 3 weeks, so I might not be here (you never know!) I would just keep sending mail through the mission home, but if you want my address its 1310 Horne Court, Brentwood CA 94513. But I did get the package with all the yummy zucchini bread! YUM! Thank you! It was still really good! There was A LOT, so I shared with the Garrisons.

We got our monthly news letter, and under the arriving missionaries section it says - Elder Casey Williams! He is going to LOVE it! I will for sure see him on my mission. Our mission is so small, so it would be rare if I didn't. I'm excited for him.

Well, the work is ok. We don't really have any progressing investigators - which sucks, but we are really trying to work with less actives, and we are doing pretty well. We had another AMAZING lesson with Cecilia and Lou. I love them! They are the neatest people. The county just passed a law the says no one in the county can live in house boats, so they will be losing their home. They are pretty devastated, but are keeping their heads up. They love there little house boat, but have a positive attitude about it all. I really hope that we will be able to get them out to church. We really need to find people to teach, but Californians are not the friendliest of people, and no one really cares about what we have to say. Its hard to find people to teach.

We have a car in this area, but sooner or later I will probably have to buy a bike.

I'm not sure how to email pictures, but I will look into it!

I think that I'm finally starting to adjust a little bit to missionary life. Sometimes I wake up and think "holy cow, I'm on my mission!" Its kind of fun. I have definitely learned that life is a learning experience, and that we have this time on earth to work towards perfection. Nothing comes all at once. Our loving Father in Heaven lets us take life step by step (line upon line, here a little and there a little - 2 Nephi 28:30). We do our best and move forward. I love my family so much, and I'm grateful that we share the gospel! I hope you all have a great week!

-Elder Tom Cook
