Letter to Home - August 4, 2009

Hi!

Well I had my very first area change, and here I am in Brentwood California!!! I'm serving in the Marsh Creek Ward (only one ward, so no more 6 hours of church on Sunday!), and we cover a chunk of Brentwood, Oakley, all of Bethel Island, and all of Knightsen. I LOVE it here!!!!! We live in Brentwood with the bishop! It is a little weird living in a house, but I like it. We live with Bishop and Sister Garrison, and it is such a small world because Sister (Donna) Garrison grew up in Tooele! She knows Scott Cluff, President Whitehouse, Bro. Lawrence (my seminary teacher) and a bunch of other people. Her maiden name is Pratt, and the Pratt aquatic center in Tooele is named after her Dad! Its crazy! We have enjoyed talking about good ol' Tooele! The Garrisons are amazing, and they live in a SUPER nice area in Brentwood, and their house is huge! They don't have any kids at home so they decided to have the missionaries live with them.

My companion Elder Ouellette is AMAZING!!! We were in a 3 some, but it only lasted for one day, because the Bishop didn't want 3 missionaries in his house, only 2. Elder Ouellette is from San Antonio Texas and has been out for only 6 months. He is a hard working, obedient missionary, and I'm excited to work with him. He is positive and has a good attitude, and I'm grateful to have him as my follow up trainer.

It was quite a big change going from San Ramon to Brentwood. Brentwood reminds me a lot of home - because it is more country. Brentwood is famous for its produce (mainly corn and peaches). I love it out here! Going from super rich and snazzy neighborhoods to dirt roads and farmland is awesome! My area is at the top of the mission, and is the furthest away from the mission home. Its pretty crazy.

The Seeno's that you talked to are a great family in the ward. Bro. Seeno owns a feed store (just like the one in Tooele) and we go there every Friday, and he buys us lunch. It is a fun little country store. We played with the baby chicks.

Well I love you all! Have a great week!

-Elder Cook
