May 27, 2009

We had our 1st service opportunity today. It is hard to do service here in San Ramon, because everyone's yard is perfect (they all have personal gardeners), and too well off to need any help (so they think). Well today we got to do some yard work for an old man named Phil. He is a very nice man. He is not in the best of health and his wife passed away a while back. He doesn't seem too interested in the church, but we will see. He is a huge pack rat and has a ton of junk. It was really nice to get in a pair of jeans and help out. Well we got bad news today. James - who is supposed to be baptized on Saturday - is having troubles with his ex wife and wants to push back the date. His ex wants to take their son (who James has custody over) and take him on a trip to Vegas over this weekend. James is pretty upset, and doesn't want his son (who is only 14) in Vegas with his ex, because she's not very responsible. He is a great father and I look up to him for having such great values, but it is sad that it came up right before his baptism. Satan does not want him to be baptized, but it is so important, and I hope and pray that things work out. Today was again a bit rough. It's tough being a missionary. Today I really missed home and am wondering if I can do this. My testimony sucks and I doubt. I'm never going to give up I feel like I need to be here. Got to keep working at it.
